In today’s post, BollyX Regional Trainer, Rachel, shares with us her thoughts on body acceptance and learning to love yourself. Read more about why this #BollyXrockstar teaches and works so hard to empower others to love who they are.
BollyX is a community where I feel supported by those I dance with to be where I am in the present, and work to become a better and BOLDer version of myself every day. I hear and repeat “Nobody is perfect”, but I don’t think I always internalize this phrase on a deep level. What truly is perfection? Imperfections are beautiful. They are what make us each unique, and make life more interesting.
The part that’s so difficult to understand is that it’s not about how I look – it’s how I feel. When I get trapped in comparing my body to others, or feeling shame for eating something for fear of gaining the weight I worked so hard to lose, the response I’m not looking for is “you look great”. What I need is to feel accepted and loved for who I am, not only by those around me, but by myself.
It is a lifelong journey for me to deal with how I feel about my body. I’ve held much of this feeling inside most of my life, but it helps to know I am not alone with these feelings. We can be here for one another as a community, and even if our circumstances surrounding these feelings of body insecurity and destructive self-criticism differ slightly, we can elevate one another through dance, empathy and togetherness.
I think of people around the world who are suffering from ailments and devastation. I remind myself that my body is incredible, and that all bodies are incredible. What we can go through and still survive physically and emotionally is astounding! We are all connected, and the support within our own BollyX community reaches to the communities infinitely beyond.
The reason I teach BollyX is to empower people to become the best rockstar version of themselves, and to truly feel like a rockstar inside. The more we can feel this love and put those vibes out into the atmosphere, the more it can spread and bring far-reaching peace to the world.
