Dancing, whether it’s a BollyX class or another dance fitness program, is a fun way to sweat out those toxins and shed some extra pounds. But what can often get in the way of fully enjoying your workout is how you dress up for class. For example, leggings that are losing their elasticity can be extremely annoying when you’re trying to follow along a new dance sequence. Thus, it’s important that you have on comfortable, breathable clothes that accommodate a wide range of movements.
Another factor that tends to be a little distracting is our hair. Ladies with shorter cuts are lucky enough to leave their hair as is, or hold strays back with pins or a headband, but women with longer locks have to do a little more to keep their tresses under control. From high ponytails to braids, there are a variety of ways you can keep your hair from smacking your face while busting some moves.
While a topknot or a regular ponytail will do the job, there are a host of hairstyles that are chic and hold its own during a workout.
Knotted Ponytail
If you’ve got really long locks, try upgrading your plain, old ponytail with this knotted version. In an article sharing sweat-proof styles for the gym, hairstylist Lacy Redway shares with InStyle her simple tricks to execute this look. After putting your hair halfway up in a ponytail, take a small section of the ponytail to wrap around the hair tie and then pin it. Divide the rest of your ponytail into two sections, then wrap the right section around the left to make a knot. The last step is to pin the loose section of the knot to the nape of your neck.
Half-Up French Braid
Some days, we’ll have a dance class wedged into the middle of a busy day filled with appointments. We’ll have already done our hair in the morning, perfecting that beach wave that can take a bit of time to accomplish, as shown on a tutorial posted on The Scene. A fitness class will probably ruin that hairdo for the rest of the day, unless you improvise and turn it into a half updo before the start of a class. If you want to maintain your beach waves, a half-up French or Dutch braid will keep your hair permed after class.
Braided High Pony
High buns and ponytails are everyone’s go-to workout hairstyles, but if you want to jazz up this do, go for a braided high pony instead. Hair gurus advise on Harper’s Bazaar that you apply some mousse onto your fingers before braiding, since this will prevent flyaways. Secure the end of the braid with some clear elastic. If you want the illusion of a thicker, fuller braid, carefully loosen each loop of the braid, taking care that you’re not pulling the braid apart.
How will you wear your hair to class?
