This week’s Instructor Spotlight is on Susan, multitalented extraordinaire hailing from Seattle! Read about her transformation through fitness, as well as her joyous leap to BollyX in our interview!
Q: Tell us about yourself – what do you do when you’re not teaching? What are your hobbies? What other formats do you teach? Give us a little on your background.
A: Hello BollyX Community! I live in beautiful Seattle, WA and am so excited to be a part of the first wave of BollyX instructors in our city. In addition to BollyX I teach three other dance fitness formats (Zumba®, Zumba® Gold, and Zumba® Toning) and am a Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor. I’ve spent most of my career in finance but I seem to be transitioning to a new career in fitness! Coming from a musical background, I believe strongly in the power of music. I came to dance fitness a few years ago and it helped me transform my life – regaining joy and vitality and dropping over 120 pounds along the way. Now I am so grateful that I get to encourage others on their own paths. BollyX is such a joyful, effective way for participants to meet their health and fitness goals but also lift their spirits and unleash their inner swagger!
Q: How would you describe BollyX in one word?
A: JOY! If I could use two words – PURE Joy!
Q: What is your favorite part of BollyX class?
A: I love the clear interval-based format. There’s something so satisfying about a beautiful, expressive routine after completing a high-intensity cycle. My current favorite is Prem Leela, with it’s interesting rhythm and romantic meaning! I love watching my students ‘rejuvenate’ during this song to get ready for the next high-intensity cycle.
Q: How has working with BollyX changed you or your lifestyle?
A: Since discovering BollyX I have noticed a clear dramatic improvement in my strength and cardio fitness very quickly! I’ve met some wonderful people and now have a new hobby of watching Bollywood movies whenever I get the chance!
Q: How long have you been with BollyX?
A: I became BollyX Certified in March 2016 and began teaching regularly in April. I recently attended the BollyX LIT Certification and picked up lots of great effective modifications so that I can help my students feel more successful.
Q: What is your favorite BollyX song to teach?
A: My favorite for quite a while has been Malhari – intense, fun, and as one my students put it, “very Rock and Roll”!
Q: Where do you teach BollyX?
A: I teach BollyX on Fridays at The SeattleGym Queen Anne location. If you are in the area come and join us!
