Q: Tell us about yourself – what do you do when you’re not teaching? What are your hobbies? What other formats do you teach? Give us a little on your background.
A: When I am not teaching in class or at the events revving up the BX energy, I work as a Senior Quality Engineer at a Healthcare company. I love reading, exploring new places and choreographing dances.
Music, Sports and Dance have always been an integral part of my life growing up. I have had the opportunity to learn and perform diverse dance forms such as Classical (Bharatanatyam), Folk, Bhangra and Bollywood. I still remember first few weeks of learning Bharatanatyam at the age of 7. Perfect form, posture, grace and great deal of discipline are few basic needs of this dance style.
Being brought up in Northern Part of India and having studied at Gurunanak Khalsa College (Mumbai), Bhangra and Folk have always been my favorite and close to heart. I am currently certified to teach 3 other formats – Bbarreless, Zumba & Zumba Kids.
Q: How would you describe BollyX in one word?
A: Although one word is not enough to describe BollyX and its awesomeness, if I had to pick one – it is EMPOWERING. The BollyX format is simple, yet effective and intense. It gives the power to the students to move with confidence, creating an energetic and fun atmosphere while also creating an opportunity to make bigger connection during performance portion of the format. Bottom line – the focus is on the students – which is great!
Q: What is your favorite part of BollyX class?
A: Those amazing smiles and dramatic rockstar poses from students!! Connection to crowd during performance section is a great win!
Q: How has working with BollyX changed you or your lifestyle?
A: There is a saying: ‘Right place at the right time’. I was introduced to this format by former fitness director of Coppell Y, Gina Tomaso, who encouraged me to get certified with BollyX. I fell in love with the format instantly. I always wanted to introduce and teach a Bollywood fitness format that is challenging, intense, fun, and dramatic without getting lost in the complexity of the dance moves. BollyX does just that.
I got certified with Regional Trainer and Global Community Manager Meredith Miller Higgins ( a true rockstar) who taught me everything I know today about the format. BollyX has helped me grow as an instructor and strengthened my teaching skillset. The BollyX Community and support group is like no other.
I want the world to experience this amazing format and I do what I can to get one step closer to that goal. In the past year and half, I have had the privilege to promote BollyX at various events, introduce BollyX at new gym locations, and meet new community members at certifications and events. This has all been possible due to a great support system at home, an amazing BX instructor group that has never left my side and rockstar students who come back for more.
Q: How long have you been with BollyX?
A: I will be celebrating my 2nd Bollyx-aversary in August this year!
Q: What is your favorite BollyX song to teach?
A: Wow, that is a difficult question. There are so many. My most recent favorites are ‘Nishaana’ , ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ , ‘Cutie Pie’ , ‘Nachange Sari Raat’ and ‘Desi Boyz’
Q: Where do you teach BollyX?
A: I currently teach BollyX twice a week at 24 Hour Fitness Valley Ranch.
