If you have long hair or any hair for that matter, you probably dread washing it after each work out. For me personally, it’s like a chore. I work out twice a day and get super sweaty after teaching a BollyX class. Dry shampoo doesn’t really work since my hair is completely drenched in sweat; therefore, I have to wash it every night after I work out. As a result of frequent washes and blow drying, my hair has become dry and brittle.coconut

Naturally, sweating makes your scalp produce more oil build up, while the sweat residue on the strands of your hair dries out the end of your locks causing split ends. Shampooing is the only way you can remove the dirt and oil build-up. Washing your hair too frequently strips down all the natural oils which causes the hair to get dry and brittle. So what do you do in this situation? I discovered that by doing deep conditioning hair masks once or twice a week helps keep my hair healthy and beautiful. You can maintain your BollyX Diva status every time you hit the dance floor by doing the same!

There are so many different brands of deep conditioning hair masks on the market currently. However, most of the leading brands contain chemicals like parabens, sulfites and fragrances which could be harmful for you. Of course you can go to Whole Foods Market or some specialty natural store and find organic and chemical free masks but they can be very expensive. Another solution? You can make your own hair mask at home which will only cost you pennies!

Recently, I discovered a very simple DIY mask remedy which I now use every week to maintain my hair’s natural beauty. It uses common ingredients and works very effectively if you do it once a week.

All you will need to make this mask is two tablespoons of organic coconut oil and two tablespoons of raw honey. You can add more coconut and honey if you have longer, thicker or extra damaged hair.

Coconut Honey Hair Mask

What you’ll need:

  • 2 tbsp. Organic Coconut Oil
  • 2 tbsp. Organic Raw Honey
  • Small Sauce Pan
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Towel
  • Shower Cap

Mix the ingredients together and heat the mixture up on a stovetop in a small sauce pan for about 3 min. Apply the mask to damp towel-dried hair. Have a towel around your neck to protect your clothes while applying the mask. Section your hair off and apply generously from top to bottom, focusing on the ends where the most damage occurs. Wrap your hair into a bun, wear a shower cap if you like and let the mask soak in for 30-40 minutes. While you wait for the mask to do its magic, you can watch some new BollyX choreo on the portal or catch up on new Bollywood hits on YouTube. Wash the mask out in the shower using shampoo and conditioner and BOOM: soft, smooth, healthy Diva hair!
